Gluten-Free, Uncompromising Quality

We offer both ready-made flour mixes and other mill products. All our products are preservative-free, and we do not use any wheat starch.

Our products are also vegan, dairy-free, and contain no added sugar. For many of our products, we have obtained the ‘Gluten-Free’ trademark to simplify your selection in stores.

We are continuously developing new products to expand our selection and offer even more options for various special diets.

Viljatuote’s Story

Our story began on the Karjalainen family farm over 30 years ago. Suhola farm, located in Virtasalmi, is a pioneer in gluten-free cultivation, having grown buckwheat since the early 90s. Gluten-Free Finnish Buckwheat Flour was our very first product, and initially, only buckwheat was milled at our facility.

Virtasalmen Viljatuote was named after the farm’s location, and we still operate at the same address today – just in a slightly larger mill!

Inspired by buckwheat, we created our first ‘Oman Myllyn’ (Our Mill’s) flour mix, the Dark Gluten-Free Flour Mix, whose main ingredient is, of course, buckwheat. We aimed to incorporate as many domestic raw materials as possible into this flour mix, which is why it has been awarded the ‘Hyvää Suomesta’ (Produce of Finland) label.

Our Goal: Delicious Gluten-Free Baked Goods

When we embarked on our journey, gluten-free baking had a poor reputation. Baked goods often failed, tasted like cardboard, and primarily starches were used for baking. We wanted to create something that we ourselves would genuinely enjoy using. With this philosophy, our ‘Oman Myllyn’ selection continued to expand, and today it includes a comprehensive range of ready-made flour mixes for easy and delicious gluten-free baking!

We continue to create products with the same philosophy as when we started: high-quality, safe, and tailored to our customers’ needs and wishes. We use these very products ourselves, whether we’re hosting celebrations or preparing our morning porridge!

Food from Our Own Land

The ‘Hyvää Suomesta’ (Produce of Finland) label is a mark of origin for Finnish food products. A food product bearing this label is manufactured in Finland using Finnish raw materials. For multi-ingredient products, the Finnish content must be between 75% and 100%. The label is product-specific.

Use of the label requires membership in Ruokatieto Yhdistys ry (Finnish Food Information Council) and regular audits. Established in 1993, the label is currently used by nearly 300 companies for approximately 10,000 products.

Among Virtasalmen Viljatuote’s products, you will find the label on our Gluten-Free Dark Flour Mix, Finnish Buckwheat Flour, and all our oat products, with the exception of the Gluten-Free Oat Flour Mix.

“Virtasalmen Viljatuote was unanimously selected as the Gluten-Free Company of the Year 2016. Eight proposals were submitted for the competition organized by the Coeliac Association, most of which were bakeries from various parts of Finland. Virtasalmen Viljatuote is a family business that has been operating in the industry for 20 years. The company’s core idea is to offer safe, domestically produced gluten-free products.”

A company that has earned the ‘Suomen Vahvimmat’ (Finland’s Strongest) certificate strengthens the Finnish economy now and in the future. The certificate signifies the company’s positive financial key figures, creditworthiness, background information, and excellent payment behavior.

The ‘Suomen Vahvimmat’ (Finland’s Strongest) certificate assures customers, partners, creditors, and other stakeholders that collaboration with the company is built on a solid foundation. The certificate is based on Suomen Asiakastieto’s Rating Alfa credit rating.
